This page provides an overview of testing with the DSC. Detailed Testing Procedures for Students can be found on the DSC Policies and Procedures page.

Extended Time for Online Exams

DSC strongly recommends that you check your allotted testing time at the beginning of the exam to ensure that your extended time is reflected.

In Canvas, you can see this information in the “quiz’s details page”. There is not a special note that an accommodation has been granted, but the time limit should reflect your accommodated time. If you are not sure what your accommodated time should be, contact the DSC. If your extended time isn’t reflected, do not start your exam and immediately email your professor and cc your DSC counselor indicating that there is a problem with your extended time.

Scheduling Exams with the DSC

The following testing information is for students who are registered with the DSC and have been approved for a testing accommodation.

In order to receive your testing accommodations, you must do the following:

  1. Send your Accommodations Letter for Faculty/Staff to each of your instructors. This notifies your instructor that you have been approved for the accommodation. It is strongly recommended that you send your letters before the end of week 2.
  2. Complete the DSC Testing Request form. At the beginning of each quarter, you will receive a link to the DSC Testing Request form to schedule your exams. If you do not receive the link, please contact dsctesting@uci.edu. Complete the form at least 5 business days before an exam is scheduled to take place.
  3. Confirm that your exams have been scheduled by checking your MyDSC account. It will take around 5 business day for your exam to be scheduled. Details are below.

If you have changes to your exam schedule, have questions, or experience difficulty with the Testing Request form, contact the dsctesting@uci.edu.

Canceling or Rescheduling Exams

If for whatever reason you must cancel your exam with DSC, please email dsctesting@uci.edu as soon as possible. To reschedule an exam, DSC must receive email permission from your instructor with a specific date and time. It is up to the instructor if they allow the exam to be rescheduled or made up. If you have a disability related issue, we also encourage you to contact your Disability Counselor.

Your instructor will need to decide how to proceed and make the necessary arrangements for non disability related issues. They can request Zoom Proctoring services from the Academic Testing Center (ATC). If the ATC services are needed, instructors need to initiate the request, not students. The ATC is not part of the DSC, however, their services may benefit those who require remote proctored testing due to special situations, such as Covid-19, bereavement, or family emergency. Instructors may decide to proctor the exam, or have a TA provide an alternate testing plan.

Confirm Your Exam Schedule with the DSC

If you would like to confirm that the DSC has scheduled your exam, you can do so using your MyDSC account. Please note that it takes around 1 business day after you complete the DSC Testing Request form for exams to be scheduled.

Login to MyDSC, using your UCInetID and password, and navigate to the Testing Tab.

Testing tab of MyDSC

Under the Testing Tab you will be able to select the Year and Quarter and then select Search.

Search by selecting the correct year, quarter, and course.

All scheduled exams will be displayed towards the bottom of the page, along with information, such as status, date and time of the exam.

Status types:

  • Pending: DSC has received information submitted through the DSC Testing Request form.
  • Submitted: DSC has details on the exam, such as date, time and duration.
  • Approved: DSC has received the exam from the instructor.
Exams are displayed in a table listing Status, Date, Day, Time, Exam Type, Minutes, Material, and Date Created.

Day of your Exam

It is strongly recommended that you arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled testing time. If you are late, that time is considered part of your testing time. If you arrive more than 20 minutes late, you must work with the faculty to reschedule the exam, except in the case of disability-related emergencies.

Please note that most exams proctored by the DSC take place at the DSC office. However, during finals, exams may take place at an alternate location. You will be notified the day before your exam if it is to take place at a location other than the DSC office. For directions, visit our Contact page.

Be ready to sign in with DSC staff and show photo identification prior to taking the exam.
